MAATJ hosts or supports many community-based events and activities. We also support student’s Japanese education by undertaking various type of projects.
MAATJ ANNUAL HAIKU CONTEST
MAATJ Hosts annual haiku contests for students of all grade levels.
JAPANESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION ROUNDTABLE
MAATJ representatives created two task forces to work on two projects: One is to advocate becoming Japanese language teachers in K-12 schools by providing information (ex How to video) on teacher certification. The other project is to investigate the career paths of students who learned the Japanese language and culture.
SURVEY RESULT ON AGING JAPANESE LANGUAGE TEACHER
近年アメリカにおける日本語教師不足の問題が深刻化していく中、現役の日本語教師の高齢化も進んでいるため、次世代の人材不足が懸念されています。そこで、在米日本大使館の依頼を受けた中部大西洋岸日本語教師会（Mid-Atlantic Association of Teachers of Japanese, MAATJ）が日本語教師の高齢化の現状を探るアンケート調査を実施しました。今回のアンケート調査を拡散するにあたり、米国日本語教師会（AATJ）の協力も得ました。
STUDY ABROAD SURVEY REPORT
米国の日本語教育関係者を対象に、日本へ留学できない状況が米国の大学や他の教育機関にどのような影響を及ぼしているかについて緊急調査を行いました。

J-LEARN
The Japanese Language Education Advocacy and Resource Network (J-LEARN) is a coalition of Japanese language teachers at all levels, interested parents, and other stakeholders. It was established in 2016 to respond to proposed cuts in Japanese language programs in the Washington DC area. The annual Junior Japan Bowl competition created by J-LEARN in 2017 has grown to a national level competition with 300 plus participants!
J-LIFE
MAATJは、日本語教育のためのアドボカシーの一環として、社会人の日本語学習経験者から日本語学習がそれぞれの人生観やキャリア選択へ与えた影響についてライフ・ストーリーを募り、ウェブサイトで公開するというJ.Lifeプロジェクトを行なっています。
J-Embrace
MAATJはJ-Embrace オンラインフォーラムを開催しております。メンバー間の交流とネットワーク造りはもとより、現場での様々な課題に耳を傾け、共に考え、ざっくばらんに話せる場が提供できればと思います。取り上げるトピックに関しては、DEI/DEIB(Diversity, Equiety, Inclusion, Belonging)、Z世代を支援する活動、教師自身の振り返りや仕事環境、テクノロジーなど、参加者の希望やニーズに合わせて柔軟に対応して行きます。

JAPAN DAY
